The April 2nd Club Meeting was held after the Turkey Shoot Work Party. Douglas Laughlin and Kevin Plank (The Property Owners), discussed their upcoming plans for Grapevine Eradication and Forestry Management Program for the Club Grounds. At present, they are still in the planning stages. We will keep you informed about this subject as more information becomes available. The final draft of the "Ground Rules" for Geauga Bowmen was presented at the meeting and put up for a vote. The members present voted unanimously in favor of the New Rules. A copy of the New Rules is attached to this newsletter.

ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT: This years Turkey Shoot was a big success. We entertained 66 shooters over the weekend. Six members of the Ohio Society Traditional Archers (O.S.T.A.) attend the event, camped on the grounds, and shot the course. Steve Wagner of Wagner Archery Products set up his merchant tent and offered archery supplies to the archers. He also donated a brand new 20# Recurve Bow to the Club. Thank you very much Steve! Congratulations to the winners of the Turkey Shoot this year. They were:

Mark Genteline 1st Place in the Traditional Bow Division Ethan Lilley 1st Place in the Youth Division Adam Yoder 2nd Place in the Youth Division

Geauga Bowmen purchased a Bow from Russ Crane to raffle off at the Jay Reda Benefit Birthday Bash. Gary Kingston donated 4 Flu-Flu Arrows to raffle off with the bow. For more information, see "Jay's Benefit Birthday Bash" below. In a final note, T.J. Hall won the raffle for the custom drop point hunting knife. Congrats T.J.

CLUB INVOLVEMENT

Our Club is unique in the fact that we have no mandatory work hours. All work is done on a volunteer basis. That is why we are asking members for help to set-up/take-down targets for our shoots. Ideally, we would like a minimum of 6 volunteers for each shoot (but more would be better). Two members would be responsible to set-up targets 1-10 as well as take them down. Two more members responsible for targets 11-20, and two more for targets 21-30. Targets may be set-up the week before the shoot and taken down the following week, anytime at your convenience .... You determine the time.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated and urgently needed. There are various other projects that also require some attention: upkeep of club grounds, trail maintenance, steps, bridges, driveway potholes, to name a few. There is always plenty to do, and the list is growing with continued neglect. To have any questions answered, and see how you can contribute, please contact: Edd Read (Pres.), Jim LaBant (V.P.), Todd Kelly (Field Chairman), or Mike Ballash (P.R. Liasion).

EVENT CHAIRMEN NEEDED: We are looking for volunteers to serve as Event Chairman for the following Club Shoots:

30 Target 3-D Swap Meet: May 7th & 8th Native American Fun Shoot: June 11th & 12th Cook Out & 30 Target 3-D: July 9th & 10th 3-D African Safari: August 13th & 14th 3-D Deer Shoot: September 10th Pig Roast: September 11th

If you are willing to serve as a Chairman for any of the above events, please contact Todd Kelly at (440) 679-1816 or Gary Kingston at (440) 729-3183.

January Newsletter

With the hunting season nearing a close and two months left of old man winter in our face, I hope everyone had a successful season. Whether you shot the buck of your dreams or you are still looking to fill your first doe tag, I hope you have had a great time hunting game, sharing the campfire, or just spending your time in the out of doors. For most of us archery is our passion and our link to the outdoors. We feel a need to pass it to the next generation, to secure the future of our way of life. Archers seem to be the avid ones still out enjoying wildlife! We live the outdoors in one way or another with bow in hand. Our history is full of giving back to the community. Archery is the link that introduces others to a great way of life. If we want to pass it on to the next generation we need to adapt to the changing times and take the time to introduce as many people as possible to our sport.

Our club is going to meet this challenge. Step one is a big one and will be addressed as soon as the snow melts, if not sooner! Our grounds are going through a change to make the club more neighbor-friendly and also taking full advantage of the property not being used. With some work our trails will be more user-friendly and esthetically pleasing.

Step two is advertising. We will be going to great lengths to rejuvenate club interest and increase our membership. I hope to see everyone as part of the future Geauga Bowmen this coming season. We are only as strong as our membership. Hope to see you again this season!

Mike
